Una Cartografía del Fin: The Road de Cormac McCarthy
Author: Escudero Pérez, Jimena (Universidade de Oviedo)
Language: Spanish.
Format: Paper.
Synopsis:
The Road portrays the end of humanity, perhaps as a species and unquestionably as a civilization. The collapse of the biosphere and infrastructures leads to a drastic social devolution that McCarthy uses to expose the fragility of our cultural framework. The protagonists face all kinds of challenges in their struggle for survival, but the debasement of people and the existential burden are their greatest challenges. In this post-apocalyptic scenario, the father-son relationship stands as the only evidence that at some point, humans were capable of both assembling moral codes and mastering the environment they inhabit. The novel confronts us with a holistic and hyperbolic end, meticulously mapped out in this volume.
